Job Description - Accounting Clerk

SALARY RANGE

Salary  - $19.72 - $31.08/ hour (dependent upon qualifications)


SUMMARY

This position performs professional and administrative work for the Finance department. To perform this job successfully, the individual must be accurate and detailed in the performance of his/her essential job functions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure assigned financial transactions are properly recorded for accuracy and completeness as per internal guidelines and General Accounting Standards.

Compile, analyze and enter financial information (such as journals) into the accounting software.

Reconcile credit card deposits via website, spreadsheet and bank daily.

Place orders with online suppliers for office supplies and other supplies as requested. (I.e. EBay, Amazon, etc.)

Act as the backup to the Accounts Payable Clerk.

Process Ad Hoc EFT payments to vendors monthly

Process unclaimed funds to State of Florida annually including the generation of stale checks, voiding, reissuing checks, and due diligence.

Assist Human Resources during open enrollment (i.e. health insurance, long-term disability, life insurance etc. for current and retired employees.

Prepare bank transfers between accounts for supervisor’s approval.

Perform monthly bank reconciliation for all assigned bank accounts by the last working day of the following month for supervisor’s approval.

Prepare payroll journals and associated reconciliations (i.e. Pension, PTO) as determined by supervisor.

Assist with month-end closure and prepare monthly reports/support as required.

Assist with fiscal year-end and prepare year-end schedules for audit as determined by supervisor.

Prepare documentation and entries of year-end inventory count for all locations .i.e. parts, materials, chemicals and fuels.

Perform custodian role for Petty Cash as documented in the Petty Cash Policy and Procedure.

Perform record retentions duties in accordance with State of Florida guidelines. Act as Records Management Liaison Officer and provide information for public records requests.

Any other duties as assigned by supervisor - Accounting Manager.


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of an Associate’s Degree or equivalent and at least two (2) years of related experience in accounting, preferably in a government organization or similar environment.

The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Manual dexterity to operate standard office, data entry and word processing equipment is required.
